What is colour dye transfer?

This is a process used to try to recolour an area of carpet that has lost its colour.

First, the area is clean to remove any dirt or contamination. It is then dried.

Creating the match varies from 90% upwards.

Once we have created the dye match, we will then administer this either by an air spray via injections or both.

The colouring is massaged to the base of the fibre and is normally dry within a few minutes.

We can only apply this if the fibre is wool or nylon.

The reason for this any other fibre does not have the minuscule air pockets to accept the colouring.

Repair

When the dye method is not applicable, we can try to repair the area.

To do this, you must have a donor. This is a spare piece of carpet that is larger than the damaged area.

We cut a square section away. Cut the donor to size.

Trimming the edges to ensure good adhesion.

We will glue of heat seam. Apply glue to the base of the seen backing.

Fit the new piece in and ensure this is fixed securely.

We now use a specialist hand tool that ruffles the fibres to be in the same direction.
