For this customer, we were fixing an issue caused by another tradesperson.
They had placed plastic sheeting on the carpets that had adhesive on the reverse. If this were laid down for a few days, it would just vacuum off. It was down for six weeks before the time came to remove it; all the gum had transferred onto the fibres.
To remove this, we use a specialist solution that we spray onto the carpet and agitate gently with a brush. Leaving this for around fifteen minutes to dwell. After this time, steam cleaned the areas to remove the solvent.
Once that was complete, we proceeded to clean the whole room.
Water temperature was steam vapour, with water pressure set to 350 psi.
Steam Extraction
Also known as hot water extraction. This is where the temperature hits 99f. Anything above which is steam.
Using heat at this level is the most common method used.
Benefits of using this level of heat include deep penetration into the fibres and removal of grease, dirt, bacteria, dustmites and other microscopic issues.
Breaks down odours and eliminates most stains.
As an example, if it were a lounge we were working on, this is what we would do.
1/ Thoroughly vacuum the entire room. Hair strands, grit, and other particles will be removed.
2/Depending on soil levels, we will decide which solution to use. We always use alkaline chemicals.
These are sprayed under pressure into the fibres.
3/ Agitation of the chemical will ensure that 100% of the filaments will be addressed.
4/ We leave this to dwell for at least ten minutes to get to work.
5/ Set up our machinery.
6/ Regulate the temperature and water pressure, which is normally 300psi. We can reduce or increase this depending on the level of dirt.
7/ Add a specialist acid to the freshwater tank and a defoamer agent to the recovery tank.
8/ We now work. Working from right to left from the furthest point in the room.
9/ Address all blemishes we find.
Drying times vary depending on the humidity. Although touch dry, to become bone dry would take between 1 and 3 hours.
If working on an additional area, we would place an air mover to speed up the drying times.

When dealing with furniture and upholstery, we must understand the fabric: cotton, polyester, nylon, or silk. If you use an incorrect solution or method, you will cause permanent damage. The majority of furniture can be wet cleaned. Some may require a low-moisture or dry method.

Once assessed, we move the largest piece first. Apply our solution and agitate. We then extract this using a small hand tool. Once the rear and sides are complete, we comb the fabric back into place.
The rest of the three-piece suite is now treated. Using a brush to embed the solution, allowing it to break down the grease and dirt.
Water pressure is set to no more than 150 psi. The work differs from every job. Some require repetitive treatments.
Headrests, seating sections generally require more work, especially if extracting grease marks.
What hide do you have? We recognise these as we are trained. Many folks use wipes and other household products. This is not the correct way to maintain the luxury of any leather.
We use a specific process.
Degreasing. Stains removed, if possible. Re-clean and nourish. Feeding gives the leather the suppleness to extend its longevity.
Refrain from using shop products. These contain bleaches and do have a warning in their small print. Buyer beware. All you are doing is diluting the mark and spreading it. Over time, it will return via wicking.
Most problems can be eradicated via the normal process; however, we take calls for the following that are classed as emergencies and get to you as quickly as possible. We are unable to provide a cost, not even a guess, as no job is the same. As an example, we have extracted haemoglobin from carpets in 20 minutes and then in 4 hours.

That smell is in the underlay. And the only way we can remove this stench is the removal of the underlay. Most jobs we do require the whole room to be emptied(by you). We get to the underlay.
Is the subfloor wooden, concrete, and asphalt?

Replace the room with a new underlay and carry out the refit.
We then proceed with steam extraction.
